Does Bnine work with SSI?

Yes. B9 says government benefits such as SSI qualify, alongside wages from jobs and gig work. Benefit payments deposited into your B9 account count toward the $100-in-14-days requirement for a B9 Advance.

How to send your benefits to B9

  1. Open a B9 account in the official app and note your B9 routing and account numbers.
  2. Change your direct deposit with the agency. For Social Security and SSI, you can do this through your my Social Security account at ssa.gov or by calling the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213.
  3. Wait for the first payment to land in B9. Allow at least one payment cycle for the change.
  4. Check your available advance in the app.

How the limit may work for monthly payments

SSI is normally paid once a month, while many paychecks arrive every week or two. B9 lists payroll deposit frequency as one of the factors behind your advance limit, and eligibility looks at deposits in the last 14 days. In practice, monthly payers may see smaller limits, and eligibility may depend on where you are in the month. The Advance Limit Simulator in the app shows what applies to you.

How repayment works

Repayment is automatic: any deposit into your B9 account goes toward your advance first. If your next deposit is your monthly benefit, the advance comes out of that payment. Borrow only what that payment can comfortably cover after rent and essentials.

Costs

  • Basic is $9.99 a month, with advances up to $250.
  • Premium is $19.99 a month, or $6.99 a month billed yearly, with advances up to $1,000.
  • B9 waives the membership if you deposit $5,000 or more a month. Deposits from multiple sources, including benefits, count.
  • No interest and no credit check on advances. Instant transfers may carry an optional fee.

On a single monthly benefit, a $9.99 fee is a meaningful share of a small advance. Run your numbers in the cost calculator first.

SSI resource limits

SSI has a resource limit, $2,000 for an individual, and money in bank accounts can count toward it. Balances in a B9 account are treated like any other account. If you are close to the limit, talk to the Social Security Administration or a benefits counselor before building up savings in any account.

Other benefits

B9 refers to government benefits generally, with SSI as an example. If your income is Social Security retirement, disability or another program paid by direct deposit, check in the app whether those deposits are recognized before relying on an advance.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a Bnine advance with SSI?

Yes. B9 counts government benefits such as SSI toward eligibility when they are deposited into your B9 account.

How do I switch my SSI deposit to B9?

Update your direct deposit through your my Social Security account at ssa.gov or by calling the SSA at 1-800-772-1213.

Will a Bnine advance affect my SSI?

An advance is not a loan, but money held in any bank account can count toward SSI's $2,000 resource limit for individuals. Ask the SSA if you are unsure.

Need more than a paycheck advance?

If a B9 Advance will not cover the gap, you can compare personal loan offers from lenders in a third-party network. Checking offers is separate from B9.
